Department of Microbiology

Microbiology deals with the function, structure, uses, and the existence of a microbe i.e., those organisms which are very small and can't be seen with the naked eye like bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The Department of Microbiology offers Postgraduate M.Sc. and Ph.D. Programmes in Microbiology. Department has the mission to make its students technically strong and coherently aware by inculcating the domain of the implications of their studies. The course curriculum offered by the department provides in-depth knowledge of Food and Dairy Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Microbial Genetics, Downstream Processing, Nanotechnology, and Biostatistics. Our department has well-trained faculty with both national and international collaborations in reputed institutions which open doors for our students to further their careers. The Department has well-equipped laboratories to provide hands-on training and research exposure to the students. We have state-of-the-art lab facilities along with a specialized Centre for Drug, Discovery, Designing & Development (C4D) unit to support our academic courses and research areas. Our department is having active research groups for carrying out collaborative and interdisciplinary research

Programme Educational Objectives (PEO)

  • Students of microbiology at the time of graduation will have an understanding of the natural history of infectious diseases to deal with the pathogenesis, laboratory diagnosis, etiology, treatment, and control of infections in the community.
  • Students at the time of graduation will recall microbial physiology like metabolism, replication, and regulation.
  • Students at the time of graduation will be able to engage in lifelong learning and continuous self-development in the field of microbiology, or other related fields, through professional development.
