An educational visit with its natural dynamic environment provides a learning venue that fits children' innate desire to know more about things, engages even those with short attention spans, and puts the learning subject in context. The Department of Food Technology, SRMUH organised a three day educational visit to ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), Shimla, Himachal Pradesh from 25th – 27th April, 2023 for Ist and IInd year B.Sc. (H) Food Technology students. CPRI is a non-profit scientific institution under the ICAR and working exclusively on potato crop. The institutional visit enabled the students to learn about the developed suitable varieties and technologies for potato cultivation and processing along with strategic research attributes. The visit allowed the students to gain an insight of the institute’s state-of-art laboratories for conducting basic and strategic research in the field of food technology, biotechnology, genomics, genetics and plant breeding, plant protection, soil science and agronomy, plant physiology, biochemistry, and post-harvest technology.
